If you're getting ready to invest in a new equestrian arena, and you've decided on an open design, it's time to rethink your decision. Open arenas may seem like the way to go, but that isn't necessarily the case. Before you choose an open arena, consider the benefits you'll enjoy when you invest in a covered arena.

Extend Training Hours

If you plan to limit your training to daylight hours, an open arena might serve you well. However, if you want to extend your training hours, you need to switch your plans to a covered arena. Open arena's don't give you the lighting you need to continue training into the evening hours. That is unless you install stadium lighting. Unfortunately, stadium lighting can cause a disturbance for your neighbors. That's where a covered stadium comes into the picture. With a covered arena, the lighting from your evening training sessions won't cause any problems for your neighbors.

Ensure Climate Control

If you want to ensure year-round use of your new equestrian arena, it's time to take a closer look at a covered arena. One of the problems with an open arena is that there's no protection from the elements. Unfortunately, that means you can't use your arena during inclement weather. Not only does the inclement weather create an unpleasant situation for your riders, but it also creates an unsafe environment for your horses. One of the benefits of a covered arena is that it provides maximum climate control. With a covered arena, training doesn't need to be interrupted by rain, snow, or extreme temperatures.

Improve Observation Area

If you're going to use your arena for equestrian shows or riding lessons, you need to plan for the observation area. Outside observation areas aren't always as comfortable as you'd like them to be. That can be a real problem for lengthy shows and training sessions. But, if you choose a covered arena, you can provide a comfortable observation area for your visitors.

Reduce Unwanted Distractions

Finally, if you're ready to invest in a new equestrian arena, it's time to consider the distractions. Whether you're hosting an equestrian event, or you're offering riding lessons, distractions can cause serious problems. Unfortunately, you can't avoid the distractions when you have an open arena. But, with a covered arena, exterior activities won't cause a distraction.

Don't sell yourself short on your new equestrian arena. Talk to your contractor about the benefits of investing in a covered arena instead.
